Abhyanga Ayurvedic Oil Massage For Mothers

I will create a space of comfort and healing through the gentle and nurturing touch of postnatal massage. I aim to ease the physical discomfort that often accompanies being born.

I will help to release muscle tension, improve joint mobility and increase circulation through soothing movements and the therapeutic benefits of Ayurvedic oils. This not only promotes physical healing, but also invites a deep sense of relaxation.

I will guide you through synchronized breathing and create an atmosphere of tranquility as we embark on this journey together. This sacred space will help you to feel calm and stabilized. Rhythmic breathing acts as a gentle emotional massage, helping to calm the mind, release stress and foster a sense of inner peace.

I am here to offer you the support and relief you deserve during this sacred phase of your journey as a new mother through Abhyanga Ayurvedic oil massage.

Experiences with Postpartum Massage

"Susan's post partum massages should be on everyone's baby registry. She has a magical touch and I just melted every time into healing and relaxation- especially the days I resisted self care! Her reminders to breathe are invaluable. Susan was also totally flexible, baby on massage table with me, sleeping on my chest, she works around anything..I remember in particular one day Susan rubbing my shoulders while she simultaneously rocked the playpen to soothe the baby!"

What To Expect

And The Many Benefits Of Abhyanga

The room is gently dimmed as incense fills the air. Soft blankets and sheets are laid out on your bed or a cozy spot on the floor. A specially selected oil blend is warmed. The warmed oil is gently applied and massaged into your skin, covering all joints, muscles and marma points – your sensitive trigger points.

The goal is to open channels of healing by improving lymph flow and circulation. Ideally, the oil is left on for 30 minutes before taking a warm shower to complete the restorative experience.

Questions About Postpartum Massage & Abhyanga

Frequently Asked Questions

Curious about postnatal massage and how it can benefit your transformative postpartum? We understand your questions and concerns. At Susan The Doula, we are here to give you valuable insight.

Abhyanga ("oil massage") is a form of Ayurvedic therapy that involves massage of the entire body from the head to the toe with Dosha (your individual constitution)-specific warm herb-infused oil.

Abhyanga is an ancient holistic therapy for emotional healing and calming stress both mentally and physically. Warmed oiled is the key healing factor in Abhyanga. Regular massage includes manipulation of the skin, muscles, tendons and ligaments with or without oil.

A visit dedicated to Abhyanga will be one hour long.

What kind of oil is used?  Sesame oil is infused with Shatavari and Bramhi, two South Asian herbs that support the female reproductive system and calm the nervous system. Depending on one’s personal constitution or the time of year I might mix the infusion with extra sesame oil, coconut oil or sunflower oil.
